SSA programs provide a way for a defined area to fund expanded local services and improvements through a localized property tax levy.
How an SSA works
A Special Service Area (SSA) is a mechanism for contiguous industrial, commercial and residential areas to fund expanded services and programs through a localized property tax levy. These enhanced services and programs are provided in addition to services and programs normally provided by the City.
What SSA funding can support
SSA-funded projects may include security services, area marketing and advertising assistance, promotional activities such as parades and festivals, and small-scale capital improvements that support the district and its commercial corridors.
SSA #51 — Chatham Cottage Grove
The Chicago City Council passed the Establishment Ordinance for SSA #51 — Chatham Cottage Grove on December 8, 2010. SSA #51 supports maintenance and beautification, debris and snow removal, façade enhancement, economic development, marketing, safety initiatives and promotional events.

The general boundaries of SSA #51 begin at 95th Street and Stony Island Avenue and extend west along 95th Street, including the north side of 95th Street to Dobson and then both sides of 95th Street to Cottage Grove Avenue.
From there, the district continues north along Cottage Grove Avenue and includes both sides of 87th Street between Champlain and Ingleside, the shopping mall on the west side of Cottage Grove between 87th Street and 84th Street, both sides of 79th Street between Champlain and Greenwood, and both sides of 75th Street between Indian and Drexel.

CBA SBDI serves as the administrator and service provider for Special Service Area #51 — Chatham Cottage Grove.
The service provider supports implementation of maintenance and beautification, façade enhancement, economic development, marketing, safety, promotional events, commissioner meetings, public documents, procurement opportunities and other approved SSA-funded services.
